1975 elky ss?
Is there anything in the vin to tell me if a 75 camino is an ss? I'm looking at a camino that the guy claims is an ss, it doesn't have ss stripes, the grille is gone, and I can't find any exterior emblems. It has swivel buckets, and full gauges instead of idiot lights. It also has the 454 with the turtle400 tranny.

Re: 1975 elky ss?
SS is just badges a and stripes. Not even any speed parts like the SS models in the old days.
So they didn't even have anything special for bragging rights
I had a '76 SS Elco, same deal.

All of that info is available on the homepage if you have any questions on VIN, RPO, gears, etc., but either a C or D will be in the VIN. Everyone's replies have been spot on, nothing more than an appearance package in those days. Now if the fifth digit is a "Y", then you know it's a factory 454 - which is not too common. Look here to completely decode it:
