Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
Are you tearing it down completely? You may want to consider examining the push rods to be safe. This is what I found after cleaning mine up when I did my top end over. Some of the corrosion was pretty deep. Good time also to look at the condition of the lifters.

The truck has roller cam and lifters.
I cleaned the engine with kerosene, all the deposits are gone.
I'm waiting for the Elky to arrive.
I'll need a Vortec intake, new oil pan as the current one is rusted badly, and a set of headers, and I should be good to go.
Also planning on swapping out the water pump

How many miles are on the engine?
It's got some crud buildup in the intake ports or maybe stuff leftover from cleaning.

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
The motor came out of a newspaper truck, mainly local miles, with lot's of idling both at the plant and on the route.
Driven by an older woman who new cars,as her and her husband are enthusiasts, didn't abuse the truck.
It will make a great daily driver while I build my 396,then I can have some fun rebuilding it.

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
Im planning on installing a rock stock L31 in the laguna for now with plans drop in a hotcam later. I have a 750 cfm carb right now and wondered if that will be way too much for the stock motor configuration, it should be fine for the hotcam.

Any pics of your car...love the color.
I was thinking of adding a Laguna front end.
My car arrived yesterday...

I know our cars are terribly heavy, but I didn't know it took a semi to haul one...
Congrats!

Do the math...2300 miles, MAYBE 20 MPG= 100 gallons x $4=$400 each way.
I guess I could have flown there rented a trailer and drove it back here.
Add a hotel room and food and beer and I'm thinking the $1000 shipping was a good deal.

Why on earth would you need to swap a fuel tank with an electric fuel pump capable of providing 60psi for a carb?
A carb needs 8psi max when it's smoking hot; 5-7psi when it's not.

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
sorry didnt read carefully thought he was gonna run fi still if you use a tbi
fuel pump and bypass regulator would work also all because of no mec fuel pump provision

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
Seems to be a number of in-line pumps around to make the 12-15 PSI for a TBI, if that's whats going to be used.

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
I actually would like an in tank fuel pump...but pump replacement sucks...having to drop tank each time.
I have a Holley blue pump and regulator from a previous build...but the pump is LOUD!!!
I mean you need a $1000 amp to blast tunes to drown out the noise.
A good reason to run headers and some glass packs...

Who is doing a TBI?
I must be missing something.
We need better pictures of the Camino.
What is the story on the Camino with the Laguna nose in the avatar?

Re: Vortec and 4l80e transplant
I believe you will need a regulator with the "blue" pump, if you don't have the one that comes with it.
