Intergral Windshield Antenna Empty Intergral Windshield Antenna

This plug looks like it will disconnect from the housing...tried very lightly to remove it but it did not budge, afraid to break the wire that connects up into the glass. Anyone remove theirs?.....Prob just have to wiggle it a bit but want to be certain. Thank you.

When I had the windsheild replaced on my 73 the guy just yanked it off. Maybe spray some penetrant on it and let it sit for a little while.

I've replaced quite a few of those types of windshields and never had a problem. That plug should come off. I think I'd try to grab it gently with pliers so you dont rip the connector out of the plug.

Thanks Fellas- didn't know if there was some kind of trick to it. Maybe if I screw it back in also, might get more leverage. Will use some PB Blast & my wee little pliers.

Thumbs up

If you mess up that connector, on the coax that runs to the radio, I may have an extra coax assembly for ya. I would have to look.......

If your just removing and then replacing the same windshield, I believe you can leave the connector plugged and pull the coax through the hole.

Since that connector plate has rust on it, the plug etc may have some corrosion on it. It would be a good idea to take it apart and check it. Easier now than when the car is back together, if the radio acts up. A bit of silicone grease, like DC4 etc in the connector, will keep the moisture out also.
I personally like the windshield antennas. No external antenna sticking up, to get broke etc.

Or, if you want to upgrade, you can install this AM/FM/CB Tri-band power antenna I just found on a '79 Fleetwood. It actually works...which they almost never do after this many years! Bet you remember these, Pila! LOL!

I remember when I had the Cutlass turning on the radio by accident while going through a car wash. It was a power antenna...ouch.

I've yet to see a '73-'77 Cutlass with a power antenna setup. Matter of fact, I've not seen any GM "A" body with a mast antenna. Did they mount the antenna in the fender or rear qtr?

I've had my share of problems with power antennas. The Buick I just bought has one that works OK. (so far)

I know a guy with a 79 Trans Am with all of 5,000 miles on it and the only the wrong is power antenna is broken. There is a guy that rebuilds them but when they tried to deal with him he was a bit of a nut.
