Darn Vinyl Tops!

Imagine the surprise when this guy pulled back the vinyl top and saw what laid beneath! Midwest car? Nope...took this photo of a '74 Cutlass at DVAP in Phoenix last month. It had CO plates on it. Look closely and you can see the shoulder belt retractor and the sunvisor mtg bracket...LMAO!

I replaced the vinyl top on my '74 Malibu once, back in the 90s, and had some rust there, but not much. When I restored it about 7 years ago the vinyl top went west. If I can help it, I'll never own another car with a vinyl top.

Re: Darn Vinyl Tops!
I have a friend with a 69 Torino. Decent car but it wasnt maintained perfectly all the time and it has a vinyl top. Its fine there is no rust under it and the vinyl is still good. I think GM dropped the ball in this area when the cars were built-cheap vinyl,no drain holes any where and thin metal in the roof.
