Console shifter handle problems.

Console shifter handle problems.
I bought a 75 Laguna for parts and it has a console and auto shifter. However I can't figure out how the heck to get the black piece off the top of the shifter to get the stupid thing apart.
Can someone gimme some help on this?

Going off memory from an old 77 Grand Prix I once had…
You need to gently pry/pull the shifter button up to remove. From there you should see a c-clip holding the shifter knob on.

Pry up on the actual button huh? I'll see if I can manage not to break it.

take a small screwdriver on each side and pull up evenly from both sides.

At the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position on the button, there is an indent about 1/8" down from the top where you can get a very small screwdriver between the side of the button and the knob and pry straight up.
