Re: my winter beater
Nice. I love the color combo. I am looking for a similar one or even and older body style. I will go for a 63-87 but really I prefer the earlier two body styles in that range. My daily will stay the same.

All I can say is here I come... Hope the snow don't get too deep!

Should tint the windows and black out the grille.

Re: my winter beater
I don't do window tint anymore, my last car had tinted windows. In Ohio you can only have 50% tint. Mine were illegally dark, (5% on the rear, 20% on the rest...the cops had a field day with me). They scratched easily and faded (to a ugly purple color) after a few years. Â I like the look , but not worth it in my book.driveit wrote:Should tint the windows and black out the grille.

Re: my winter beater
In NY it's technically a graduated scale, with zero tint allowed on the windshield, a little (don't remember exactly) on the front sides, more on the rear sides, and anything goes for the back. if you followed these rules, it would look worse than if you had no tint at all. However, it's all moot, since the cops don't actually test the amount of tint to see if you comply -- they just give you a ticket and rash of sh*t.

Re: my winter beater
I would like to tint mine a bit, but not too much as I have trouble seeing at night anyway.

Hey alive 75, what kind of mpg do you get from your truck.

nvm  I rented two Red Box movies a few weeks back and forgot to take them back.  Forgot I even rented them.  Could have bought them by the time I found them and took them back.

Re: my winter beater
My beater is also my daily driver, a '92 C1500 Chevy that I bought new. Getting quite rusty these days, but it doesn't owe me a dime......@ 282,000 miles..

Re: my winter beater
Tinted windows are the way to go. The malibu will have as dark if not darker than whats on my daily.

Re: my winter beater
Is that legal in your neck of the woods. Â If i could legally do dark tint i'd put up with scratches & fading if I didn't have to worry about getting pulled over. (I drink to much to worry about getting pulled over for something stupid like window tint)

If you have quality tint it won't fade. You have to use window cleaner without ammonia or cleaners that say that it is safe for tint also. The tint I have on there now has been on for over 4 years, prior to that the tint was on there for 6 years (got it darker) and look just as good as the first day it was installed. I've only been pulled over once for the tint. If the wife and I go out where we are drinking we use Uber or Lyft to get us there or back - no worries of any cops.

The tint was professionally installed so I would hope it was quality stuff.

Re: my winter beater
The brand that was put on my car every time was LLumar, its UV safe and its the same stuff that goes on office building windows. Make sure its UV safe (along with proper care) otherwise it will probably turn to purple.

Re: my winter beater
Inside the 10 mile radius, I run a 1978 K5. Â
It's the simplest, most reliable vehicle I own. Â Â

I also have a 1997 K1500 that sits in the driveway, but it gets runs to the airport and home improvement stores. Â
You can't beat a 4x4 powered by a gen 1 small block.

I'd forgive the late charge if I could, but not the same company. The name just happens to be the same.
We do Computer Support for small and medium business. No movies.

Re: my winter beater
Love the Blazer. You need a winter car for your winter car! You would not be able to go any where with that around here without someone asking you to sell it.

Re: my winter beater
Around here blazers like that didn't make it out of the 90's. Â They rotted to the ground pretty fast, damn road salt.

Thanks. I don't drive put lots of miles annually on any of my vehicles.
For work, I go to the airport and/or drive rentals.
The '97 K1500 specifically gets airport parking duty since the parking spot sizes promote door dents and scratches.

Re: my winter beater
My daily beater is a 94 Olds Bravada that I picked up about 5 years ago for $500, has power everything (and it all still works), leather, AWD, and gets decent mileage.

Re: my winter beater
I have an '86 S-10 4X4 that needs work on the 4-speed manual transmission. I used to use it in winter, but I've been dragging my feet about pulling the trans to fix it.
I spent way too much money on it a few years back, with new fenders, inner fenders, tail gate, body mounts, radiator, etc, and the list goes on......
