Orange sunshine
Hey everybody,
I can't believe I've been on the net since around 95 and I just stumbled onto this forum. I'm really glad I did, lots of nice wheels.
I've got a a 73 Chevelle SS Clone, here's my story.
I've owned the car for about 15 years and have put less than 3000 miles on it. I started out by replacing the 283 that was in the car when I got it with a.030 over 350. The 3-speed got replaced with a 4 speed.
I kept destroying distributor gears until I pulled the cam. Turned out to be a bad grind.
I ran it for a few years until I decided it needed paint. I did the body work as time would allow and got a fiberglass hood. About 5 years ago I hit a moose the night before I was going to paint it.
It happened less than 1/10 of a mile away from my house. That pissed me off so much that I didn't touch the car for about a year. I scrounged up the money and parts I needed and tinkered with it over the next couple of years. Mostly from 6PM to 3AM, lots of long nights and hazy days at work.
I replaced all the floor pans and finally got the body ready to where I felt it deserved paint and sprayed it with hugger orange PPG basecoat/clearcoat last summer.
Right now i'm getting ready to put in sound deadening rubber and carpet. I just put in a new pioneer deck/EQ and a Kicker sub box with 2-12's. Serious thump. I recovered my seats, put in new seat belts, got a new package tray & sail panels. I finally found some opera window chrome on fleabay and will be putting that on soon.
As like most of you do, I've got hundreds of hours of my life and thousands of dollars invested into this thing. It's become an obsession. It's been a struggle the whole way. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I can't believe I didn't give up and sell it. I'm glad I'm pigheaded.
I guess it's all worth it when the cutie at the filling station comes over and says "Nice Car!".
That's it for me, I hope you all get some nice weather to show off your wheels this summer.
Thanks for listening.

Re: Orange sunshine
Thanks for the warm welcomes.
I wasn't sold on orange, my bro talked me into it.
I'm happy with it now though, it really pops when the sun hits it.
Here are a few more pics, not much variety but it's all i've got right now.

Re: Orange sunshine
So, you've seen the good.
Here is the bad & the ugly...viewer discretion advised.

This is what happens when 800 lbs of moose meet 3000 pounds of GM's finest at 55 MPH.

That's gonna take a LOT of sanding.

Yeah, that brown stuff is what it looks like.

This is the last thing I saw before my life flashed before my eyes.

This is what what lurking underneath those gawd awful leopard seat covers.
I don't know which one was worse. Have you ever seen something so nasty?

Re: Orange sunshine
I think we're about even Lime.
Thank god there are companies making reproduction seat jackets.
When I finished doing mine I couldn't believe my eyes.
