Saginaw 4 Spead Gear Ratio Change
Hi Guys!
Its possible to change the first gear ratio in a saginaw transmission from 3.55:1 or 3.10:1 to 2.54?
I can buy a saginaw transmission but this was for an 6 Zylinder car. I mean they haves higher gear ratios than V8 engines.
Thanks guys!

Re: Saginaw 4 Spead Gear Ratio Change
I know in a muncie, changing to 1st gear ratio involves changing first gear and the cluster gear as well. So a full disassembly is involved. I had to get a pretty large set of snap ring pliers and I used a press to get the gears off the mainshaft.
Should be similiar in a saganaw.

Re: Saginaw 4 Spead Gear Ratio Change
Is that an aluminum case, or an iron case ? If you have a lot of power up front, the cast iron case is tougher. I spread an aluminum case & all the gears etc all over the road while "testing" a '55 Chevy drag car....

Ive seen or installed an aluminum saginaw. They were all cast.
