1973 inner front inner fenders. Empty 1973 inner front inner fenders.

I recently purchased two nos front fenders for my 1973 Chevelle. The left fender on the car was damaged which also damaged the the inner fender. The General Motors parts book states that "when installing new fenders on a 1973 you must order 1974 inner fenders". I have seen photos of 1974 thru 1976 inner fenders on the internet and they look different. I want everything to look original. I want my car to look like the day they came down the assembly line. My question is can I use 1973 inner fender with the later 1974 GM fenders? Would I need to modify the 1973 inner fenders to fit the 1974 fenders or vise versia?

You can use either the metal or plastic wells on any year fender.   But a 73 came with plastic wells from the factory.

A 74 fender has different cut outs on the inner structure than 73 or 75-77 fenders.
