Hi folks - I am looking for a source for new door water shields without being gouged for shipping to Canada. They want $100 at OPG for the $17 parts! Mine are pretty well toast. Thanx, Ross

Maybe use some 15 lb. tar paper or some stick on dyna-mat or GTmat.

I'd also consider a plastic painters tarp from Lowes/Home Depot, and just cut to fit. You should be able to get both doors from one sheet. Then layer your jute or padding over that.

Considering they used Kraft paper and about the cheapest fiber insulation they could lay their hands on from the factory, just about anything could be used and offer better water protection/sound proofing.

I'm thinking of that rolled foam that they use under click flooring - or would that just wick up the moisture? The tar paper would do the job as well Joe - thx. Mine only had the kraft paper on the bottom half originally - what insulation or jute are you referring to?

My 73 only had Kraft as well. No insulation.

The jute is what's in Steve's photo.  It's like a thick loose grey felt that the factory used for padding/insulation/sound deadening.  If yours was missing, I would think someone had opened that door up and removed it.  Mine had it from the factory.

I wouldn't use the padding for laminate floors.  I work with a lot of insulation contractors who do spray foam, and the word is that open-cell will suck up moisture like a sponge, which a lot of laminate floor padding appears to be.  Closed cell doesn't absorb moisture, but that'll be tough to find in sheet form -- the nearest example I can think of is Great Stuff.  Stick with the tar paper or plastic.

OPGI includes insurance, handling, shipping etc, and it costs an arm & leg to get small parts from them....been there. I just don't use them for anything these days......
The small last order I had with them, the insurance cost was more than the part...
