Gilmer Belt setup Empty Gilmer Belt setup

Post by Dinomyte Fri Apr 15, 2016 11:24 am

I was wondering if anyone had done this on their SBC? I was looking at it thinking it's got to be more efficient than a typical V-belt, and less slipping etc. Not to mention less drain on power.

I could find all sorts of setups for crank pulley, water pump and an alternator or a power steering pump on a gilmer belt and the other using a V-belt.

Has anyone seen one with all four?

Anybody got thoughts on the performance / power benefits of this?

thanks

I believe Limey had a gilmer setup at one time.

Me personally, I dont think there would be any benefit from it other than looking like a blower setup.

I highly doubt any stock belt slippage is noticeable. And I dont know if there would be less drain on power since your spinning more mass with the bigger/thicker belt and larger pulleys. Probably, uses a bit of power to spin the extra mass but wouldnt be noticeable.

Other than looking good, I dont see any benefits.

Yup I had the Gilmer set up and it powered all 4 Pulleys EXCEPT AIR........ Crank, water pump, Alternator and provision for power steering on Back side of Crank pulley ( On a Vbelt only )

I have not seen a Power steering other than that with the Gilmer set up unless custom made, Its does free up some power BUT you better like that Blower whine its higher pitched at highways speeds and very annoying, Other than the col factor I would not do it again. Hope this Helps ya
