Hello, I am 15 yrs old and I just bought my first car.. a sweet 1977 Malibu Classic Landau. It is a one owner survivor, awesome condition! It has the 305 2 Barrel with a Turbo 350 tranny. I am going to put duals on it and want to do it right. I just found a double hump crossmember off a 74 El Camino.. I have heard that they will fit, is this true? Thanks for the info and I will post pics of my new ride soon.

Yes, the 74 dual hump crossmember will bolt in and allow you to install dual exhaust easier.

Ummm...not so fast. El Camino dual humps are shorter. Not sure off the top of my head on length but, if memory serves, they are 2-3" inches shorter due to frame design. I do know the Chevelle/Malibu/Monte has an O.A.L. of about 52 1/2" and a ctr-to-ctr mtg bolt dimension of about 51 1/4". This is not to say it can't be modified with extensions to fit, however.

NO El Caminos will be shorter due to the Boxed frame It will not in my Experience fit

That is what I thought!! I knew I read it somewhere. The owner of the cross member swears it will fit.. but I was suspicious. I guess I will end up notching my existing cross member..

They guy is asking $85.00 for the Elky cross member.. I will just go ahead and modify my original, as in the long run it will be easier. I will keep a lookout for the correct cross member and get one for the right price

Good looking car! I'm a little partial to red on white interiors, too. Looks like it's in awesome shape. Keep it out of the sun or that white plastic will quickly disintegrate.

My dad's first car was a 77 Malibu 2 door as well.. he also had a 75 Laguna S3 that he restored (that he wishes he would have never sold) We are a 2 door Chevy family.. as dad's daily driver is a 2006 Monte SS with the LS4 5.3L...

Nice! Looks like my car I had in high school, which I still have - sort of since I replaced most of the metal with stuff from different cars. My interior is the same scheme except I have buckets instead of a bench.

G Force makes a fantastic crossmember. It's pricey, but worth the money if you can afford it. They were being sold on Ebay and at one of the major aftermarket transmisson places, last time I looked. JB

Thanks for all the input, but I ended up finding and purchasing a correct double hump from one of the members here on the site..What a great group!! I have another question, is the cross member the same on the A body as the G body? As I have a friend with a 77 Cutlass that wants to do the same as me, purchase the correct cross member for duals.

The Cutlass was not a G until 78. I think those cross members are different. I know the one under a Buick is different. Good luck with your car looks nice.

Olds, Buicks, Pontiacs and Chevy from 73-77 will interchange the Cross members once you go up a year all bets are off I had a Buick stamped one under both my 76 Malibu and 77 Cutlass

I have one too, but from I think the guys name was Scott ,he had a white 73 Monte that drag raced. Have not seen him on here in a while. He did fabrication work.
