Thanks. I am going to do my very best on this car to only have white and black, everything. The color in the emblems is the only exception. That will be almost impossible but I am going to give it a shot.
Well, white, black, and some aluminum.

Re: Where are you at picture
Finally got started on the short block. My machine shop had a Scat forged 496 kit that the guy never paid for kinda story. I have to buy new pistons, but the machining of the block has started. I now have to get serious about collecting all of my engine parts now. I might have found a new T56, in my garage. I had it for my 1970 Camaro but that car is going to take years to get all welded back together. So I might have a 496 big block 6 speed Laguna soon.

Nice work! Is the speaker box made of MDF? It looks sturdy, but I bet it's heavy. You're going to need those cubes to haul it around.

Re: Where are you at picture
Hey. Â That box is more like a structure than a speaker box. Â It's all #3/4" MDF. Â It takes almost two sheets of MDF to make one like that. Â Supports and braces everywhere. Â It is a little heavy, but custom made for my Chevy. Â (Now that was corny) Â I think by the time I am finished with this car it will weight 4500 pounds. Â It's as fat as a new Challenger.

I like that front bumper. Did you do that to the back as well? I am "fixing" the big bumper mistake that gives these cars a bad name. More pics would be cool.

Re: Where are you at picture
Left the rear alone it's really not that bad on the 73. I need to build a cross member to connect the front frame horns together because the factory crash bumper actually also adds rigidity to the frame to keep it from twisting

Ordered my pistons today. I hope to have the short block assembled within a week or two. Getting excited...

I'll be interested to see pics of that, since I put VDO's in mine. Which series did you get? What size are the speedo & tach?

Re: Where are you at picture
I don't know the exact series. They where a good price and a name brand so I picked them up. I wanted a 160mph speedo and a less than 10,000rpm tach. I also liked the red line pointer. The tach and speedo are 3 3/8". They should be here in a couple of days and I will take a few pics of the project.

Re: Where are you at picture
Update. I went broke today. I purchased my roller cam, roller lifters, pushrods, timing chain, and other small parts to get my long block complete. Working on the gauge set up as well. I found a combo like the one I am building on line. It made 585 horsepower and 615 lb/ft of torque on an engine dyno. Should help the Laguna get away from a red light.

Re: Where are you at picture
Nothing ever seems to be finished on these cars !
The tilt column on my Malibu is super stiff, to move up & down. I need to get it apart & see what's binding in there ! I bought a new return spring for the tilt position, and talked to the man who has this site, for parts...
My plate is full right now, so it has to wait a bit...

Hey pila, I just saw how young you are. That's awesome. My mom is 77 and she has a Mercury Marauder. I put .410 gears, programmer, and K&N on the car. She love's it. What part of Michigan are you from? I worked in Detroit on a pipeline project for almost a year a couple of years back. Went all over the area. Lot's of cool car shows almost every weekend in the summer. Man are those winters cold.

Re: Where are you at picture
Finally got tired of looking at the terrible dash and pulled it out. And cleared the last of the rats nests out of the passenger vent.

On the agenda: intermittent wipers, new climate controls and make sure they are wired right for heat and A/C and vacuum lines done right, radio with front speaker (still have to build boxes for rear), add the tach and oil pressure gauge to the cluster.
I still haven't decided if I'm going to swap in the whole dash or switch the pad only. But that will be near the last decision. I also need to do the AC parts under the hood, but I might try to get the dash in before that is all done.
The hardest part is driving the S10 while the El Camino is up because I want to doctor on its little (or big) issues. Must not get distracted....
