Those must be sticky new tires to get it to stick to the ceiling.

Re: 1974 chevelle build thread
My dad bought it originally for $2,500 for himself, once he saw I was good with my hands and liked cars he gave it to me because my grandfather gave him his 64 chevelle. So I rebuilt the suspension, 2" drop spindles, beefy sway bars, planning to rip out the A/C because it doesn't work. Have a line on a 357 block I want to build slowly but surely. Put 3.42s in a trutrac out back.REVINKEVIN wrote:Nice car. Tell me more...

Re: 1974 chevelle build thread
Do you have any pics of the rear of the car? If you don't have the 357 block yet, save up and get a 454 block. Just a truck engine with aftermarket heads and cam will give you the torque that car needs.

Re: 1974 chevelle build thread
While I'd never Discourage anyone from upgrading to a 454 BBC, there is a butload of things that would need to change and be sourced, it's not just a block/assembled short block that would need to change.
I don't want to speak for JF74chevelle, but I'm thinking the plan of building up a 357 block (which is a 350 sbc block bored out 0.040 over and using the same stock stroke) was to have a higher performance engine that could be tricked out but still use all the internally-balanced components and related SBC parts that currently connect the engine to the car.

Hey Mud55, I would like to drive up one day and look at your car. I could use the inspiration for my Laguna.

Re: 1974 chevelle build thread
It's been a long time since I updated this thread. Since the last time i posted i had built the engine on my own. Brodix IK180 heads, comp cam xe274h, edelbrock rpm air gap, AED 650 carb. Pulls like a DZ302 revs so quick. I did the rear end with 3.73s and an Eaton true trac. On the street this thing is amazingly fast. I did the suspension as well. New control arm bushing, global west offset control arm shafts. Viking double adjustable coil overs. Bilstein shocks in the rear. Handles like a frozen rope.
