I'm thinking the rag joint was off.I don't believe the column should need modification.Ive swapped about 6 columns and never had any issues.

My '77 rag joint wouldn't accept the earlier year column. The lower shaft needed to be configured to accept the earlier year rag joint. If you have '77 and want to install an earlier ('73-76) year column, you will need to update the lower shaft as well. Not sure when my '77 was built so I don't if it would affect all of '77.
The updated lower shaft now accepts the tilt column so I just need to install the lower shaft and column and I will be good to go.

Awesome! So everything looks like it lines up nicely. Good info to have when upgrading a steering column on the 77's. I will remember this for future steering column projects. Thanks for the feedback Hawk03!
