1973 Chevelle SS Rear Bumper

Hello All,
Anybody come across a or have experience cutting and tucking the rear bumper on a 1973 Chevelle? Or know anyone who has created a template? I am OK with cutting and welding but not a great engineer or math genius. Any Ideas would be appreciated. I only get one shot at it with a bumper and brackets off a non-SS car. I don't want to cut my original stuff up!

I believe someone on the board has done this to the rear bumper. Im sure he will post up. All 73 bumpers are the same regardless of model, only difference would be is if it has a rubber strip on it or if its a painted bumper for a 73 Laguna. So Id store the best one you have and cut the other. BTW, 73 rear bumper is a One Year Only part, so difficult to find.

I don't recall seeing a 73 rear bumper done by anyone here on the forum but RevinKevin did one on his 76 Laguna. Maybe he will chime in and steer you in the right direction. I the meantime when you get a chance, watch this episode below of Musclecar where they did a bumper tuck on a 73 Buick Century. Made a huge difference in the appearance. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if a 73 can be tucked. Aren't they bolted directly to the frame?
I thought that the front bumper got the 5 mph bumper and the rear didn't. In 74 they went to shocks for the front and rear bumpers. I did both ends on my 75.

Yes, thats correct. 73 has brackets that mount it directly to the frame. No shocks like 74-77. I actually like the 73 rear filler panel. But the front one is way too big.

Thanks everyone and the video was helpful. Rest assured the original bumpers will be preserved and donors from a non SS will be sacrificed.
I have a Laguna nose also which I was going to use for the front but am feeling brave enough now to cut into my donor front bumper.
The car is an 18 year work in progress getting closer to driving every weekend.
