Re: 1974 Monte Carlo engine & engine bay restoration.
Well, pretty much in a nutshell, she's done. Did the air cleaner yesterday and applied the new "Keep Your GM Car All GM" sticker to it. I still have to get a new filter element and a crank case breather filter. Still some "up top" cleaning to be done, but I can do that throughout the summer in the warm weather. I am going to take the fan shroud back out and power wash it. It's pretty gross. And it all took only two months. Started on it the day after Christmas and really only worked on it on the weekends. I'm extremely happy with the outcome. I can't wait to show it.

I cleaned my fan shroud with a bucket of water, with dish soap in it, and a scrub brush. It came out nice & clean. They can really get crappy over the years........

Looks nice but what's going on with the fan shroud? Am I looking at it wrong or is that two shrouds doubled up?
Kyle, I'd be proud to pop that hood open any time.

Thanks!!
No, you're looking at it right. Essentially, what it is, is a Chevelle shroud with an extension stapled to it to double the size.

Thanks!
Even before, I never went to a show and didn't open my hood. But now I will be more proud too! Yeah, we got it done in no time. We got the motor back in and running in 1 work day.

You know, Kyle...even with all that nice, shiny paint under there, people are still going to be wondering where that darn retaining clip is! Just messin' with 'ya...nice job...it looks great!
Checked one yard yesterday and could only find a different style on a '75 Laguna that mounts under one of the valve cover bolts. Got home and started wondering if the '71-'73 Buick 455's might have the same style as yours. There are several of those out there. Still have the largest yard to scour, too.

Re: 1974 Monte Carlo engine & engine bay restoration.
I love it when you do a lot of work, and it finally comes back together. When you take to shows, people really notice all the detail work (car freaks that we are).
When I first started on my 68 camaro, it was the nastiest thing I had seen, but now I love to sit and look at it, but it has taken me 3 years to get it this far and still not quite done.
Be Proud!

I'm very proud! can't wait to show it. I took her on the maiden voyage through my neighborhood yesterday. Took my Plymouth out to play a little bit too.

Re: 1974 Monte Carlo engine & engine bay restoration.
Yeah. The biggest expense was the engine gasket kit & timing chain/gears. 2nd was the oil, filter, and spark pulgs.
