$1000 G3 matchbox car!
The only actuall G3 in my collection (I amcurrently hoarding 4!) that I paid for that cost more than this matchbox car was my 75 guna!

I can tell you from experience, that guy is dreaming if he thinks someone is going to pay a grand for that car.
He can ask it, doesn't mean he'll get it.
Here are the variations that I have, and none of them were a thousand dollars.
No, I don't remember which variations are more rare than the others.
Thanks -
Jerry
Sorry, no idea how to resize the image...

Re: $1000 G3 matchbox car!
Jerry, what does your orange car say on the bottom? Is it identical to the one the guy is selling? Is it also a pre-production or trial car? That would be awesome! Sell it on ebay and go to town!
I have no idea if the car he's selling is worth his asking price but I do know that these trial or prototype cars can command big bucks. It's not unheard of for some of the cars from the 50s and 60s to sell for more than a grand.

Yes, the orange one has Chevy NASCAR on the base. I think I paid $80 for it at a toy show in 1994. Doubt it would get over a couple hundred bucks in the very soft diecast market. But to be honest, I would probably never sell it. Some of the other variations in the picture were also preproduction castings. It's funny; I was a Hot Wheels/Matchbox collector for about 10 years with the goal of collecting each of the ones I didn't have as a kid from the 1970s. Once I found those, my interest in collecting diecast wore off since Mattel can repackage and resell the same casting for eternity.

Hey Jerry,
Do you have the yellowish one, too? It's in this pic:

I like your display case. Since I moved, I don't display them. But, someplace I have one. It's amazing how many variations there are for one car.
Here is a good site with pictures of all the variations:

http://www.mbxforum.com/51-Falkensteiner/Matchbox/Catalog/LS/LS01-39/LS34d/ChF-LS34d.htm

The number of Monte Carlo diecast variations must be staggering.
Thanks -
Jerry

Thanks, Jerry! I wish I had more space, but I don't. I'd display more if I could.
And, I agree ... staggering the number of variations ... for both models ... and all gens of MCs now!
I sure appreciate the links ... holy cow ... I could spend DAYS on that site!
Chris ... one of these days, I want to see that collection of yours in person. Maybe even during my 2012 road trip. Wish I had a few more 2nd gen MC models....
