i think its ready to cruise now
so i have been pondering the thought of redoing the monte.
last week was the posi swap

this past w-end the wife and i were having one of our daily chats. so i caught her off gaurd and asked if repainting the monte was in our budget. without batting an eye she said yes.so tuesday i put some travel tires on here and took it to the body shop to get an estimate.

i cant get it in till mid/end of may,but i brought it home and started the tear down procedure.i started on it and did not quit till motor was out.
hood went into the rafters.

front off next, much easier in one piece

than out came the beast.shoould not of pulled in one piece,(very heavy)

put on some maypops

today i took off some moldings, the rear lid, trim, bumper and t-lights.

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
the monte sat under a car port for about 3 years and rust took its toll. couple spots in the 1/4s and under the rear of the vinyl top. so it will get fixed also

i have NOS fenders for it,and a set of doors that have not seen daylight since 1986. so nows the time i use the good stuff.so all in all,it should turn out to be a nice cruiser
the color of choice is one of these.....

it has to be a 73 color, just has to be,,,,,,,

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
Why not go back with black? it looks good like in a tuxedo...
Im in kinda the same process as you but im doing interior. I pulled the heater and ac box out rebuilt with new cores and fixed alot of vent door seal issues.
Then I decided to pull the dash and redo the whole wiring harnesses in the car, repaint the dash and other hard pieces. new carpet, install headliner ect. I still plan on quarter panel fix and new fenders and paint soon like in the next year or two.

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
Black, Antique White, Light Copper, Midnight Green & Dark Red all look good with a black interior. Get a couple of estimates at least & references unless you already know them & their work well. Good luck.

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
Go with black again Chris but tell the guy to get a good deep black. Sometimes you get sort of a brown tint when they follow the mixing for the factory stuff. Midnight blue wouldnt look bad either .

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
Definitely black again! I always thought the paint looked good in the pictures you've posted, but I see it is quite faded up close. It'll be even more killer with the rust taken care of and new paint!
By the way, is it difficult to remove the rear window molding? I got the window reglued last year, but it still leaks. Need to get it fixed again
You recommend pulling the engine and the transmission separately (TH-400?)?

Re: i think its ready to cruise now
took a pic of core support, dam is it nice. i've been affraid to look at it

i desided just to get the original sheet metal fixed and not use the stuff i've hoarded for so many years.
i did use another hood, headlight buckets and a 75 NOS middle header section.
i was also going to use one of the pass-side remote mirrors i have on it,but desided to use the chrome bullet mirrors instead. i was going to convert, but found the crimps on the controller handle were just to tight and i would of distroyed it trying to take it apart.might even change my mind yet,and use the pass remote.i was thinking chrome would be different.

Holy stance difference Batman....that 454/400 combo must be heavy.
Good choice having it patch repaired. Only original once.
