The rod is inserted into the sewn listing that's already incorporated into the headliner. Then the listing with the rod inside is snapped into the plastic clips. And then you can attach them by sliding them into the slots of the inner roof structure. It may be easier to insert the plastic clips into the roof structure first, then snap in your headliner to make alignment a little easier. Hope this all makes sense.

The headliner I received from OPGI had o clips but did have (5) rods. I guess I was expecting a headliner like this.g3chevy / Mr Pontiac wrote:Limey SE wrote:So where does one aquire the rods??
That's why I mentioned OPGI. Their kit includes the rods and clips. So the installation looks completely factory. In my video at about the 1:25 minute mark, you'll catch a glimpse of this OPGI heading kit I installed about 10 years back.

I`m going to call rockauto and ask if the headliner comes with hanger clips.

I too have performed this job years ago.....I think I had 8-10 hours in it. Very nervous when using a "heat gun" to tighten up the vinyl.....its easy to melt and blow through.
You dont keep in one area too long! Keep it movin!!

Hmmm....so no clips with your headliner kit from OPGI? I would call them and see if they simply forgot to ship the clips. As for Rock Auto, you'll have to email them as they have no phone customer support. And if I recall the ones they sell are made by ACME Headliner Co which is a great company, but I don't think they include the rods or clips in their kit.

Mark, the overhead console really takes that headliner to another level! I go back to your build thread frequently for motivation.

Someone on one of the FB groups I follow mentioned they took off the old plastic bows with the "T" heads from their old headliner and had them sewn into the new headliner. Seems that would also be a viable option to go back to totally original.

This is the reply;
All the info we have is listed on the website.
If you don`t see the info your looking for we don`t have it.
That also means they are not important for fitment.
The manufacture always list the details that will be important to determine if the part will fit your vehicle.
That was no help at all.

the original plastic bracket is too big for the pocket of the new headliner. it had to be sewn on the outside. I bought the acme trim from rockauto.

This portion of the thread is timely, as I will be doing a headliner install this winter (after my roll cage is complete).
I have a kit from Rock Auto on order and it should arrive within the next few days; expected ship date is Feb 6. I can report out what is included in the kit.
