Trans Question for a th350 on a BBC.
So before I go and jump the gun on anything right now, I would like to know if a th350 would work on a 454 BBC?
Ive done some reading and what not and saw that people are running them and some saying they wont work, is there anyone on here doing this set up?
Just wanna get some info before I do anything with my 350 or get a BBC, I get 8MPG as it is so i would like a bigger motor to push this old sled a little better.
But in the end I will swap the th350 with a OD transmission for longer road trips that It MAY see in the future.

Re: Trans Question for a th350 on a BBC.
I run a TH 350 behind my 454 and have done so for years. Coupled with a 2500 stall, with a stage 2 shift kit. It will work fine provided your not pushing over 500 horses, but even then, they can be modified to handle that kind of power. The 400 is a little heavy and consumes slightly more power, but the 350 is very capable!

thanks my friend, I was hoping it would hold, now do I have to put a shift kit in it? and what kinda stall should I get one at? Ive had one in my old 69 yota landcruiser from B&M , it was pretty good. but cheap is also better for right now till I start my new job

Big blocks chevys are like small block chevys, there are numerous size that utilize the same block configuration. 396,402,454, 572, are all the same. The only exception is the newer 572 blocks don't have provisions for mech. fuel pump. Other than that the swap is no different than using a small block.

now what MPG's are you getting with the 454? is it about the same with the 350? cause i know now i think im getting about 8 and i think its cause of the carb is needing a rebuild soon. but gas isnt a big issue just curious

A lot of gas mileage depends on gears tire size and weight of your right foot

The Chevy bell housing bolt pattern
hasn't changed since the first small block, like in 1955.. In 1958 the engine mount bosses were added to the sides of the block.
Chevy has remained redundant, and not went crazy with changing patterns like the blue oval guys did.

Re: Trans Question for a th350 on a BBC.
I estimated mph to be around 5-6, I was running a 4.10 gear ratio, But I also ran a 29 inch tall tire, which brought the rpm's down a couple hundred rpm's. A proform mechanical secondary 750 carb. Victor jr. manifold, and a cam with a 292 adv. dur. It eventually broke the limited slip, then soon spun a bearing on the #6 rod. I'm working on a new 454 and going to use the same TH 350 from the setup above. One major thing to remember! Be sure to have good or new motor mounts and tranny mounts. I cracked 3 trannys at the bellhousing before I realized my poly tranny mount was defective. These engines make a lot of torque, and the aluminum tranny housing needs good mounts too handle the torque.

A t-350 is fine. I had one built for my friend's 71 Camaro. I built a 500 hp 396 and had it done with a reverse manual valve body and a transbrake. Using a 4400 converter, the car went 11.50's.
