Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
I have to say, I love my car even more now with this new engine. Gas hog or not! I ran home on my lunch in it and just enjoyed the heck out of the drive back. It is a thing of beauty.
The key turned and fire breathed from the steel monsters heart. It roared to life like some mechanical beast. The sounds would send chills down your spine and entrance you. It would make you fall in love with the power it holds within with just one ride. It may be 100 degrees with no AC, but it was as cool as any car could be driving down the road to me.
In short it sounded awesome drove great and man it was hot in that thing! In the 90s today.

driveit wrote:Ok, so most of you know that my family recently took a vacation to Minnesota with the main objective of obtaining a new heart for the Chevelle. Â All I can say is this, she lives! Â We worked until about 10:30 last night getting everything hooked up. Â I was worried that something would go wrong, but nothing major has happened so far. (knock on wood)
We had a little trouble with the throttle sticking closed on it a few times. Â I have no idea what was causing it to do that, but it seems to be working now. Â It sounded awesome. Â I can't wait to drive it. Â My uncle is going to try rerouting the hot cable from the starter as it is hitting the header and we were afraid of a melt down there. Â
It seems to be putting out a lot of black smoke. Â I know that means that it is getting a little too much gas, or at least I think that is right. Â I don't know how to correct that. Â Any ideas?
Wished I would have known you were coming to MN I would have made JB a respectable offer for his materials from over the years AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG and asked you to meet up somewhere close. I really don't wanna lose all that literature to an auction and they think its worthless and toss it

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
Sorry. Â It was all kinda last minute and rushed and we had a lot of problems, but all in all everything is good. Â I have a new tire shredding power plant so I am happy. Â Broke, but happy! Â Who needs money anyway when you have good friends, family and of course a g3 Chevelle. lol
Here are a couple more pics from the car show Saturday that I found.

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
Driveit would have had a hard time hauling 2,000+ pounds and enough to fill the back of a pickup truck. I will include a free metal Lateral file cabinet that is about 5 or 6 feet wide and about 2 feet deep and about 5 feet high to anyone who acts fast before I sell the cabinet seperately. Driveit, if you can borrow a large van or pickup, it would be well worth the drive to Louisville. Aii free!!! JB

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
Right now I am way beyond broke. When we went to pick up the engine in Minnesota I was supposed to be on a paid vacation. I found out when I got back that I was not getting paid for part of it. So I am loosing almost a whole week of pay.
I would absolutely love to have it, but it would be a bit before I could even think about coming to get it. I would just love the chance to head up there and talk with you for a while, maybe check out that elkie of yours.
I don't know where I am gonna get the money to get the normal things paid right now, but I know the Lord will take care of us. Prayers are appreciated!

So I switched to the 600 CFM Performer carb for now. I am loving it. Much better gas mileage now. Gonna go take her for a spin right now!

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
So, I have been toying with a new idea for my hood. I have always liked the shaker hoods, just a neat touch. When I met Wally I noticed that his Laguna had a shaker hood. I liked it, but think that it should be larger.
I keep thinking of something like one of these. but as a shaker hood. Any thoughts?

You missed part of that.
"I keep thinking of something like one of these. but as a shaker hood. Any thoughts?" So in other words I want this type of scoop, but make it into a shaker hood!

my bad.  Making one of those a shaker would be different, but would probably be quite a bit of work to look good.

Yeah. Just trying to think of things to make people take a second look. Maybe say, that is cool. I've never saw that done before. What kind of car is this anyway? lol
BTW, don't blush, I've done much worse. lol...

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
I have read that a ram air hood can give you a few more mpgs too. So I thought that I would make it a true ram air hood as well. Big plans. Now all I need is time and money! lol You know the usual.

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
After leaving church last night I stopped by my moms place for a moment as it was on the way. She wasn't there, but when I shut the car off I noticed a sizzling sounds under the hood. Antifreeze was coming out from the hose connecting to the goose neck. I tightened it up and noticed that the fuel line moved when I touched it. Do aftermarket mechanical fuel pumps have a swivel or is this just loose. I tried tightening it, but it didn't seem to want to tighten. It was getting dark so I didn't have a lot of time to check it out further.

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
On the before pic did you have the carb return hooked to a hose clamp? Â Also you need the engine support bars (core support to fire wall). It does look nice.Â

Do you mean the spring? If so yes. And yes I would like to have the bars on mine again, however I can only find 1. My family must have threw it away after I moved out. If anyone has a nice set I might be interested if cheap enough.

Here is a link to my build thread on the Pro-Touring site. I don't go there often, but got bored. Most of everything is stuff you guys already know, but there are a lot of pictures. Enjoy.

Re: Driveit's day dreaming and build thread.
In the link above toward the bottom I found a set of wheels I am interested in. I wanted to do a mock up rendering, but havn't had time due to family issues. Had a few minutes here to try something quick. What do you guys think? I like it, with maybe a bit more sidewall.
