Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Just an update for anyone who is looking for a 3/8" npt temp sensor for aluminum heads.
This is what I posted above,
Then onto the next item. Aluminum heads as well as later model stock heads use a 3/8" port for the factory temp sensor. Well, my 73 used 1/2" ports. I wanted to use my original temp sensor on the drivers head but it doesnt fit. And an adapter would bring it out too far. So I ordered a Sierra TS25101 (200 degree) temp switch that looks stock and will fit the 3/8" port. Sierra TS25101 is the same as Stewart Warner 83304 but way cheaper. Stewart Warner does have a 83305 that is a 220 degree switch but they want over $40 bucks for it. Dont think it was worth that. I'll be running a 180 stat so a 200 degree kick on of my factory light would be extra visual insurance for temp.
Update, temp sensor TS25101 has a single blade terminal !!! According to my 1973 service manual wiring diagram, the MANUAL and 307 cars with temp LIGHT use a TWO blade sensor. The single blade sensor I believe is for the automatic cars with temp light.
Just wanted to update you guys. And I have the TS25101 new in the box if anyone needs it.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
I bolted the Pypes Race pros directly to the headers and support the end of them. Just so I can run the car. Dont want it sitting for long periods without running. Anyway, short video of it running in the car.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Car has been Demonized. Swapped the Holley 670 avenger to my Demon 750. Both with 4.5 power valve. I used my avenger for break in because I knew it ran great and wont have any issues. I went through the Demon but didnt want an issue during break in. Demon is on and running nicely. Initial timing is set at 18 at idle and 34 all in at 2000 on mechanical advance. 35 at idle and 52 at 2000 with the vacuum advance connected.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
I agree Ray. Love the look of no choke horn. Have to tackle the brake vacuum issue. Have about 11.5. Going to put in a can temporarily so I can move it in the garage. They I'm thinking of going with a gm electric vac pump with the can as a reservoir.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
My 70 SS is the same way now. I have a solid roller of unknown spec in the 468?? right now and I can only get 10" on it. I do have a vacuum can on it with the powerbooster and it is good for a couple hits and then goes away. I have been looking at the vacuum pumps myself. Let me know how quiet the GM one is. Some of the ones I have seen are louder than the engine running when they cycle and I did not want that. I looked at some of the hydroboost stuff but not sure I want to go that way either. I guess when I build the new engine, I am hoping a better designed hydraulic roller will help my idle vacuum issue. I would like to go 496 as well, to help build a little more vacuum.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Is your Chevelle an auto? I'm have have the 4 speed so I'm hoping with the can it fills quicker. I ha e a vac gauge on the previous motor and when you let off the gas in gear the vac shoots up high. So it should fill quick. I'll see how the can works out. Won't be on the road anytime soon .

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Yes my car is an auto, but that is the normal response from vacuum. When the engine is at rpm, and you close the blades, vacuum should spike up high. These spikes are what will eventually be in the can. So even though your car only has 11.5", the can SHOULD be maintained at a higher vacuum. So make sure the can and fittings are tight, and you will have "acceptable" vacuum in the can. Over and above your idle vacuum.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
He's, that's what I'm thinking. And with leaving it in gear a bit longer before stopping and throttle closed it should build quick.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
This is an interesting setup. Pump looks exactly like the GM pump. But this kit has everything including the pressure sensor to turn it off. Have to always remember not to use 3/8" fuel line for vacuum brakes. Must use 11/32" PCV vacuum hose.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Is that the part number for the kit? I watched the video and went through all the comments and couldn't find where he said what the part numbers were.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
I believe that is the kit. Just Google the number. I found the number on another forum that a guy was installing. I kind of like the pressure switch just plugging into the booster. And the pump is compact. I'd like to use factory parts for this. So many vehicles come with electric brake booster pumps nowadays.

I did find this part number too.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Seems like alot of money just for the hose and sensor. Amazon has just that hose for $105.
The volvo kit looks to be complete, pump hose, mounting bracket etc. https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/volvo-vacuum-pump-30641411
Other option would be to grab a GM one on ebay and buy the vac. pressure switch for about $40. It runs in line with the hose and turns the pump off when it tops off the vacuum.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
The tasca parts one was the seller I found as well. But it didn't show hose and vacuum switch. I did a quick search and came up with the picture above for the setup. I didn't even get on to amazon yet to see what they can do for any of the parts. Otherwise I had been looking at the Leeds Bandit pump setup. It was a pretty quiet setup.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
Yes, I saw that one as well. Would probably fit nicely in place of a factory EVAP canister. I'm really liking that vertical stock type pump.

Re: 1973 Chevelle SS, 350, 4spd. build
For those who might have factory manual steering. This is what the rag joint and cover look like. The cover is GM part number 414017. If I remember correctly, the GM parts manual lists it as 73-74 only. I know the Nova uses a different cover for their 74 with manual steering (its similar to the power steering covers). Just fyi.
